March 16, 2020
To all our Ensemble families,
In an effort to do our part to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we are following the preventative recommendations put forward by all levels of government , and closing our office at 372 Talbot Street North in Essex as of today, until further notice. Community Living Essex County , who we share the office with, is also closing their doors to the public as well, as of today. This is not a step any of us are taking lightly, but we want to do our best to ensure the health of our families, family members and employees. These are unprecedented times, which are calling for unprecedented measures by all of us.However, I will continue to work remotely, so please reach out to me at ensemble@communitylivingessex.org, and I will be in touch. Please note, I will be primarily working from home and not be in the office to check phone messages as often as normal.
If you have not heard, our Ensemble event that we had rescheduled for March 25th, has also been postponed due to the COVID-19 virus. We will re-book once the threat of this virus has passed and we are safely able to re-open the office.
I will send notification to everyone when we will be back in the office. Again, on behalf of myself and the Ensemble Advisory Committee, I do apologize in advance for this inconvenience.

I am sorry to have to cancel our rescheduled Pizza and Connecting Event so soon after re-booking it, but after discussions today with our Advisory Committee we have decided to postpone the event due to the raising concerns with the COVID-19 virus. We are going to follow the advice of the Ontario Minister of Health and not host an optional gathering of invidividuals at this time. We want to ensure we are doing the best to not promote the spread of this disease, as well as exercising an abundance of caution for our Ensemble families and their family members. We look forward to getting together with you all once concerns about the rapidly expanding reach of this disease have settled down and ceased.
We apologize for any inconvenience and disappointment over this decision.

Kelly

Ensemble has been asked to share an upcoming study being conducted at the University of Windsor, where they are seeking input from mothers of adult children who have autism and an intellectual disability. The details are included below.

Title of Study: Parenting an adult child with autism spectrum disorder: A qualitative examination of the lived experience.

We are looking for mothers of adult children (21 years of age or older) with autism spectrum disorder and an intellectual disability. Preferably mothers who still currently live with their child and remain the primary caregiver.

The purpose of this study is to explore the lived experience of parenting an adult child diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability, with the aim of creating a rich, authentic narrative that outlines positive outcomes, navigation of challenges, and future concerns.

You will be asked to complete two 1-hour interviews. The date and time of the interviews will be scheduled at your convenience. Interviews can be scheduled at (1) the Human Kinetics building at the University of Windsor, (2) Community Living Essex County’s resource centre, or (3) a place of your choosing. For participating in the study you will receive $20 for each interview you complete.

Please contact Kirsten Penrose (email: penrose1@uwindsor.ca; cell: 519.564.7021) if you have any questions and/or are interested in participating.
