SCHOOL READINESS PROGRAM
Come join Autism Ontario Windsor Essex and Dr. Jan Matte-Gasparovic

AUTISM ONTARIO WINDSOR ESSEX CHAPTER in collaboration with Dr. Jan Matte-Gasparovic is proud to offer Level 1 of her “School Readiness” Program. This 4 week training course is to benefit parents of 3-7 year olds diagnosed with A.S.D. Parents will  learn how to address challenging behaviors, improve compliance at home for readiness at school, effectively use reinforcement and implement support strategies.

Program information
DATES:            Wednesdays, October 11, 18, 25 and Nov 1, 2017
HOURS:           6:00 pm - 7:30 pm     (6-6:30 Instructional, 6:30-7 parent practice, 7-7:30 parent/child practice) Free child care is provided for the first hour while parents receive training.
LOCATION:
LESSONS:        Week 1 - Respond to their name and Look in order to get and maintain attention
Week 2 - Gesture “Yes” and “No” for improved communication
Week 3 - Sit “Criss Cross” to take part in school circle time or take a time away
Week 4 – Come when called by their name

FEES:          Members of Autism Ontario Windsor Essex – no fee
Non member charge is $150 (membership is $50 per year)

REGISTRATION:

SELECTION PROCESS:  First come, first serve bases. Confirmation notification through the AO office via phone or email one week prior to the first class.

CLASS LIMIT : 6

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS:  3 - 7 years of age AND Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder

PARENT REQUIREMENTS 1. Commit to attending all 4 classes
2. Bring to each class, some of their child’s reinforcing edibles and toys
3. Videotape a minimum of 1 practice session & send to instructor each week.
4. Immediately call or text instructor throughout the course if assistance is needed

COURSE INSTRUCTOR:  Dr. Jan Matte-Gasparovic
Jan has recently retired from the G.E.C.D.S.B. where she was a special education teacher for 33 years primarily dealing with students having a behavioural diagnosis. She holds a doctoral degree in Special Education from Wayne State University, has taught Special Education at the Faculty of Education, University of Windsor and led the ASD Classroom Team at A.V. Graham School in Tecumseh for the past 13 years. She understands the uniqueness of each child’s learning and is passionate about persisting to meet individual goals for your child.
